On Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m., the “Enrico Caffi” Civic Museum of Natural Sciences will open an exhibition dedicated to a representation of the material that has become part of the common heritage over the past 25 years, thanks to the efforts and generosity of private citizens, and not permanently displayed for the benefit of the public.

Even before its founding, the Museum has been able to rely on the contributions of generous donors who have made important artifacts, often the result of a lifetime of personal research, available to visitors, researchers and lovers of naturalistic subjects.

Even before the establishment of the civic museum in fact, the then natural history cabinet of the Royal Technical Institute, which was its progenitor, housed materials that private citizens wanted to donate to the community.

Emblematic is the case of the Indian elephant skeleton that, which died during a circus transfer at the railway station, was acquired back in 1876 thanks to a civic collection, in which citizens and students of the Royal Technical Institute participated, which made it possible to reach the necessary amount of money – as many as 401.50 liras! – for the preparation that taxidermist Stefanelli carried out. Since then, this elephant skeleton has followed the museum’s various exhibition venues from Piazza Vecchia, Palazzo Suardi to Cittadella Square.

The exhibition will be open until August 30.
