Located on the western spur of the hill of Bergamo Alta, Palazzo Terzi dominates the small square of the same name near the imposing building of the Liceo Classico. The building, of 16th-century origin, underwent extensions and modifications that were very well assimilated thanks to the decisive intervention of architect Filippo Alessandri, who redesigned the facade and adjacent spaces in the 18th century. Since there were no other interventions in the following centuries aimed at distorting the taste of the time, Palazzo Terzi presents itself as a dwelling where the centuries seem not to have passed. The visitor is welcomed into the reception hall where a monumental fireplace dominates; the curious scenographic setting of the 17th-century frescoes by Barbello, the works by Storer and the sobriety of the furnishings complete the enchantment. The same artists, together with Tencalla and G.B.Tiepolo, are those to whom the Terzi entrusted the decoration of the palace’s other rooms as well, including the Dining Room, the Mirror Parlor, the Red Room and that of the “Soprarizzo.”
