The central element of “Tactile Values” consists of guided tours led by blind people. Each month, blind and visually impaired mediators who have received specific training lead tactile tours open to both blind and sighted adults, allowing them to explore the museum’s collections through previously unseen points of view.

The project, launched in 2018, is an initiative aimed at enabling knowledge of the museum’s works through the experience of touch. After an initial experimental phase focused on sculptures from Federico Zeri’s collection, since 2023 the program has been expanded to include different types of objects, including medals and paintings.

The project and its purpose

Thanks to NRP funds earmarked for the removal of physical, cognitive and sensory barriers in museums and private cultural venues, the initiative has become a model for expanding heritage enjoyment across the board. The goal is to provide tools and materials accessible not only to people with disabilities or frailty, but to the entire public interested in exploring the collections of the Carrara Academy from different perspectives.
