To better enjoy the bridge and the natural setting in which it is set, we recommend riding the bike path that runs along the Bergamo side of the Adda River.
Looking at it, the comparison with the Eiffel Tower is immediate, and indeed the two buildings share both the era of construction (1887-1889) and the technique.
They are both composed of nailed beams; in this case 2500 tons of iron held together by more than 100,000 nails!
Passing under the eastern pylon of the Paderno Bridge you will have a view of the incredible archway, a full 85 meters high.
The atmosphere into which you will plunge is special: on the one hand you will feel immersed in nature (the village is invisible from here and cars pass too high to be a nuisance), and on the other you will be in contact with a marvel of architecture from a century ago.
CURIOSITY.
Continuing along the road, after a short while you can also admire the early work of excavating the gorge wall that they carried out to put in the bridge pylon.
This, due to a change in the design, was later built a few hundred meters further upstream, so today you can still see up close the impressive cut in the living rock, which is so scenic that today it has become a popular rock climbing wall!
