From the Bernareggi Museum to the Monastery of Santa Grata: the tour takes visitors on a journey to discover the church of the city’s oldest Benedictine monastery, where the monumental altarpiece by Enea Salmeggia is housed.
The event takes place in Bergamo, in the heart of the Upper Town, between the Adriano Bernareggi Diocesan Museum and the church of the Monastery of Santa Grata in Columnellis, creating a dialogue between the works housed in the museum and one of the most fascinating and intimate sites of the city’s ecclesiastical heritage. The tour leads visitors to discover the church of the city’s oldest Benedictine monastery, which houses the monumental altarpiece created by Enea Salmeggia in 1623—a testament to the deep bond between the artist and Bergamo’s religious patrons. Amid gilded stucco, frescoes, and stories linked to Saint Grata and Saint Alexander, the tour offers the opportunity to appreciate the painter’s work within the context for which it was conceived.
The tour is led by cultural mediators from the Adriano Bernareggi Foundation.
