The unification of Italy was not yet on the agenda of the rulers when Camillo Rota Graziosi had the opportunity to acquire a stately hamlet in Ambivere from the curia. He did so, and from that moment on, his children and grandchildren were called ‘Camelì,’ the little Camillos. This is the origin, in 1856, of the Antica Osteria dei Camelì. Today, Camillo, a refined sommelier and cultured host, welcomes every guest, expertly introducing the dishes prepared by his wife Loredana, who took over from Camillo’s mother, Fernanda. Enclosed within a 16th-century courtyard in a small village on the road from Bergamo to Lecco, this ancient inn remains a landmark for fine dining in the Bergamo area.
The Chef
Loredana Vescovi
In the kitchen, Chef Loredana Vescovi, the owner of the establishment along with her husband and Maître Camillo Rota, wonderfully oversees the cooking. The elegance in the dining room matches that on the plates, part of a menu that includes the date of creation alongside the dishes. Lombard tradition reaches remarkable heights here, with traditional dishes such as the Casoncelli Bergamaschi, dating back to 1856 (the year the inn opened), alongside proposals that combine different flavors, creating new delicious harmonies
