As every Sunday afternoon, the church will be opened by a volunteer who can give you some brief information about the church. Entirely frescoed, the church of San Bernardino di Lallio is the first church to rise in honor of St. Bernardino in 1450.
Becoming a National Monument in 1912 for its historical and artistic importance, it is considered a valuable document of the 16th century one of the rarest remaining in Lombardy with a completely frescoed interior, with cycles dedicated to the life of the Madonna, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Bernardine and the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
In the two side chapels, added in 1532, are frescoes of various saints of great popular devotion. Sibyls and Prophets are depicted in the sub-arches of the nave. The 99 paintings with which the interior is adorned are by Gerolamo Colleoni (1500 – 1570), Cristoforo Baschenis Il Vecchio (1520 – 1613) and an unknown author (Certo T.L.) from 1619.
The exterior façade was also covered with frescoes, which were detached and restored in 1967 to save them from complete ruin and are currently placed in the sacristy of the parish church.
The volunteer present will be able to point out the main works painted on the walls of this splendid Lombard Renaissance jewel.
