The medieval frescoes in the Upper Town: a journey through different times and places, linked by a common thread—the ability of Bergamo’s medieval past to survive, visible and alive, right up to the present day.
In the heart of the Upper Town, images remain that few are aware of. In the recently restored Aula Picta of the Bishop’s Palace, symbols associated with justice, faith, and medieval culture speak once again after a long silence. In the Old Cathedral, perfectly preserved sacred icons allow us to see the world through the eyes of 13th-century worshippers. In the church of San Michele al Pozzo Bianco, 10th-century frescoes tell the story of an ancient devotion, layered over the centuries on the very same walls.
A journey through different times and places, linked by a common thread: the ability of Bergamo’s medieval heritage to survive, visible and alive, right up to the present day.
