A night in the heart of Bergamo’s Middle Ages.
On Wednesday, July 16, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the Bernareggi Museum will open its doors for a special evening visit to the Aula Picta.
The Aula Picta is a unique masterpiece within the context of 13th-century Lombard art, thanks to its vibrant colors, narrative variety, and wealth of iconographic details—as well as the close connection between the building’s function and the subjects depicted. Once the bishop’s ancient audience chamber, this space features scenes from the life of Christ alongside eschatological visions and medieval bestiaries. Among the best-preserved paintings are the effigies of Saint Alexander—the city’s patron saint—and of Bergamo’s first two bishops, Narno and Viatore. And more: The Last Supper, the Annunciation, and the Wheel of Fortune—an intact medieval imagery that takes on a different presence in the evening.
A rare opportunity to linger in this space without rushing, outside of regular hours, when the city has grown quieter.
Leading the tour will be young heritage mediators from Le Vie del Sacro.
