If there is one place where you can almost physically sense spirituality, it is the crypt.
You will not be indifferent to the casts made by Manzù and the personal crucifix of John XXIII.
It is impossible to enter this place without feeling the weight of its sacredness.
In fact, the crypt is the most intimate and intimate space in the entire shrine.
Alone the casts of John XXIII’s hand and face, made after his death by the great Bergamo sculptor Giacomo Manzù, would be enough to make it a special place.
Further enriching it is the crucifix placed in front of the shrine, a reminder of the one the Good Pope always wanted in front of his bed.
